Tehran, Iran – Hostile statements from senior Iranian officials have accelerated in response to American threats, with parliamentarians and military leaders threatening a comprehensive targeting of American bases and interests in the Middle East and West Asia, asserting that any intervention to support the protests will be met with a “more severe and harsher” response.
Boroujerdi: Our strikes will be harsher
Alaeddin Boroujerdi, a member of the National Security Committee in the Iranian parliament, asserted that the American threats reflect what he described as “Washington’s folly,” warning President Trump against repeating “the mistakes of the past.”
Boroujerdi said, “If Trump wants to repeat his mistakes, our strikes will undoubtedly be more severe and intense, and we will target all American interests in the region.” He added that the positions taken by the Iranian leadership in recent hours reflect “the peak of the regime’s power and its unwavering resolve” in the confrontation.
Kothari: A disaster awaits American bases
For his part, Ismail Kowsari, a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, issued a direct warning to the American forces stationed in the region.
In remarks to the ILNA news agency, Kowsari said: “The Americans have bases in large parts of the world, especially in West Asia, and disaster will befall them if they do not close these bases and flee.”
Kowsari described Trump’s messages of support for the protesters as “incitement of rioters,” vowing that the “resistance front” would act in a way that would deter Washington from what he called “insolence.”
“Iran is not Venezuela” and the youth movement
These threats complement Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s stance, who emphasized that Iran “will not become another Venezuela,” indicating his rejection of any foreign intervention to change the regime. Iranian officials have criticized the silence of the international community and international courts regarding issues such as the assassination of Qassem Soleimani, warning that “the youth of the region will take the necessary measures in due course” if this silence continues.
Context of the field explosion
This war of words coincides with widespread protests in Iranian cities that began with economic grievances (currency collapse and inflation) and have since evolved into more radical political demands. Tehran accuses Washington and Tel Aviv of fueling the popular movement to destabilize the country. Trump warned that the United States would “come to the aid of the protesters” if they were met with violent repression.
