Cairo, Egypt – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty held a telephone conversation with Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, during which they discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the field of peaceful uses of atomic energy and support national development efforts, particularly the Dabaa nuclear power plant project, which is a model of coordination between Egypt and the Agency.
During the call, Minister Abdel-Aty expressed Egypt’s full support for the important role played by the Agency within the verification system under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), emphasizing the importance of maintaining the Treaty’s universality and credibility as a cornerstone of the international non-proliferation regime. The Minister also affirmed Egypt’s commitment to continued coordination and cooperation with the Agency to achieve shared objectives.
The call also addressed the Iranian nuclear issue, with the minister stressing the importance of continuing efforts to reduce escalation and build confidence, and to create conditions for the continuation of existing cooperation, enabling the resumption of diplomatic dialogue and reaching a comprehensive agreement that takes into account the interests of all parties and contributes to strengthening regional security and stability.
