Brussels, Belgium – European Union foreign policy chief Kaya Kallas stressed on Sunday that the re-imposition of UN sanctions on Tehran does not mean “the end of diplomacy with Iran.”

“The United Nations has reimposed sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program,” Kallas said in a statement.

She added that the European Union will follow up on this matter, but a permanent solution to the Iranian nuclear issue can only be reached through negotiation and diplomacy.

“Clear message”

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also said, “The decision to reimpose these restrictions sends a clear message that the world will not accept threats or half-solutions, and Tehran will be held accountable.”

He pointed out that President Trump was clear that diplomacy remains an option, and that reaching an agreement remains the best outcome for the Iranian people and the world.

On the other hand, he stressed that this “requires Iran’s acceptance of direct talks conducted in good faith and without procrastination or misinformation”.

He added: “In the absence of such an agreement, partners must immediately implement Snapback sanctions to pressure Iran’s leaders to do what is right for their country and what is best for world security”.

False.. Legally and procedurally

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Sunday that the announcement by France, Britain and Germany (the European Troika) to begin activating the trigger mechanism is invalid from both a legal and procedural standpoint.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs threatened in a statement a “decisive and firm” response.

Araqchi added, in a letter to United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, that Tehran is ready for diplomacy and reaching a just, balanced and sustainable solution, but the three European countries and America have chosen a confrontational approach.

He continued by saying that the attempt to revive the expired decisions has no legal basis… The Iranian nuclear issues were settled in advance through the nuclear agreement and Resolution 2231.

The illegal attacks by Israel and the United States against Iranian nuclear facilities also made these canceled decisions obsolete and irrelevant to the existing reality.

Araghchi stressed that Tehran will continue to vigorously defend its sovereign rights and interests, and any attempt to harm it will be met with an appropriate response.

For his part, Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said that his country is ready for negotiations, but “when their outcome is known in advance, it is absurd.”

Larijani stressed that “no one can eliminate the nuclear program, and we will continue to be able to preserve our achievements.”

Real Madrid at its lowest levels

In addition, the Iranian rial recorded its lowest levels against the dollar, on Sunday, at approximately 07:30 GMT, after the re-imposition of United Nations sanctions

The dollar, according to the unofficial black market price, was trading at about 1.12 million riyals.

“A firm and decisive response”

Iran later pledged that it would take a “firm and appropriate response” after the re-imposition of UN sanctions on it.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced in a statement that “the Islamic Republic of Iran will firmly defend its national rights and interests.”

It will also respond firmly and appropriately to any action aimed at harming the interests and rights of its people.

For his part, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf said that Tehran does not consider itself obligated to comply with illegal decisions, including suspending enrichment.
