Washington, United States – US President Donald Trump said on Friday that he has made progress on many issues.
Including trade and approval of the TikTok agreement, during a phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Trump also announced that he will meet his Chinese counterpart in a month, during the APEC (Asia-Pacific) summit hosted by South Korea.
He will visit China next year.
“I just had a very productive call with Chinese President Xi Jinping,” the US president wrote in a post on Truth Social. The call was very good, we will talk again on the phone, appreciate the approval of the TikTok (deal), and together we look forward to meeting at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum.
Trump noted that the Chinese president will visit the United States at the “right time.”
Although the US President talked about progress in the phone conversation with his Chinese counterpart regarding the TikTok deal, he did not explicitly announce that any agreement had been reached.
“We have made progress on many critical issues, including trade, fentanyl, the need to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, and the approval of the TikTok deal,” he said in a post on his Truth Social platform.
For his part, Xi Jinping asked Trump to avoid “unilateral” trade restrictions and maintain a “non-discriminatory” climate for Chinese companies such as TikTok.
The Chinese president told Trump that the United States should “avoid imposing unilateral restrictive trade measures.”
This is with the aim of not undermining the gains achieved during several rounds of negotiations.
He also called on Washington to “provide an open, fair and non-discriminatory environment for Chinese companies investing in the United States”.
The Chinese president also declared that his country and the United States must remember history, appreciate peace, and embrace a brighter future.
Commercial and strategic tensions
The phone conversation between the Chinese and American presidents comes amid trade and strategic tensions.
This phone call is the second between the two presidents since Trump’s inauguration on January 20 (January), and the third since the beginning of the year, as they made a phone call on January 17 (January).
During their discussions on June 5 (June), Trump said that he had received an invitation from his Chinese counterpart to visit China.
He confirmed that he invited Xi to visit the United States.
