Beijing, China – Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov stated that a trilateral meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US and Chinese counterparts, Donald Trump and Xi Jinping, is possible during the APEC summit, provided all three leaders attend the event in China.
The presence of the leaders is a condition for the meeting.
Speaking to reporters, Ushakov explained that holding the meeting requires the presence of Putin, Trump, and Xi Jinping in China at the time of the summit, noting that the Chinese president’s attendance is confirmed, while Putin has previously pledged to participate.
He added that U.S. representatives plan to visit Trump, pointing to ongoing arrangements regarding the U.S. President’s participation in the summit scheduled to be held in China.
A potential summit between the three powers
Ushakov had previously announced that Putin and Xi Jinping, during their meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, discussed the possibility of holding a trilateral summit involving Trump.
The proposal for a trilateral meeting comes amidst ongoing contacts between Moscow and Washington, alongside growing Russian-Chinese coordination on a number of international issues.
The APIC Summit in November
The Chinese city of Shenzhen is set to host the APEC summit on November 18 and 19, 2026, with the participation of leaders from the forum’s 21 member economies.
Should Putin, Trump, and Xi Jinping attend, the summit could offer an opportunity for a direct meeting bringing together the leaders of Russia, the United States, and China, amidst complex international issues—foremost among them security, economic, and trade crises.
