Belgorod, Russia – One person was killed and another injured on Wednesday in an attack by Ukrainian forces on Russia’s Belgorod region, according to the region’s operational headquarters.
One dead and one injured
The operations headquarters said the Ukrainian attack resulted in one death and one injury, without disclosing further details about the nature of the attack or the type of weapons used.
The areas in the Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine, have been subjected to frequent attacks since the outbreak of war between Moscow and Kyiv, and the Russian authorities periodically announce casualties and material damage as a result of these attacks.
Escalation on the border
The attack comes amid continued military escalation between Russia and Ukraine, with the two sides exchanging cross-border strikes and targeting sites and facilities in various regions.
Moscow accuses Ukrainian forces of carrying out attacks on residential areas and infrastructure in Russian border regions, while Kyiv maintains that its military operations are aimed at limiting Russia’s ability to continue the war.
Continued clashes
The announcement of the attack coincided with diplomatic moves aimed at restarting negotiations on the Ukrainian crisis, amid the Kremlin’s insistence that a settlement still lacks a clear and comprehensive plan.
Moscow and Washington are seeking to resume negotiations regarding the war, at a time when the US administration is considering making changes to its negotiating team, while battles and mutual strikes between Russian and Ukrainian forces continue on various fronts.
