Toronto, Canada – The war of words between Canada and US President Donald Trump escalated after Ontario Premier Doug Ford intensified his criticism of the Trump administration.

He also criticized Trump’s handling of Canada and the pressure Washington is exerting on trade issues.

Ford’s remarks come amid rising tensions between the two countries over US tariffs and trade policies.

The Canadian official asserted that his country should not take US pressure for granted.

He emphasized that Canada possesses economic leverage that it can use to defend its interests.

Sharp criticism of Trump

Ford leveled sharp personal criticism at Trump, describing his approach to Canada as akin to that of a “bully.”

He also pointed to what the Canadian official sees as the use of pressure

and threats instead of calm negotiation between the two allies.

The Ontario premier affirmed that his country is capable of taking countermeasures

if Washington continues to impose new tariffs or trade restrictions.

He also emphasized the importance of the Canadian market to the American economy,

particularly in the energy, manufacturing, and supply chain sectors.

Ford’s remarks carry particular weight given Ontario’s position in the Canadian economy.

The province is home to significant manufacturing sectors, including the automotive and steel industries,

and its companies are closely linked to the American market.

Statements exchanged between Trump and Ford

Economic circles in both countries fear that the ongoing dispute will lead

to increased production costs and disruptions to supply chains.

This is particularly evident in industries that rely on the movement of goods

and raw materials between the United States and Canada.

Meanwhile, the Canadian federal government continues its efforts to engage

with Washington and attempt to contain the dispute through political and trade channels.

However, some officials are calling for a tougher stance against the American measures.

The exchange of statements between Trump and Ford reveals that the trade

dispute has escalated into a more intense political and media confrontation.

This comes at a time when relations between the two neighbors appear to be facing a new test

that could have direct repercussions on the economy and cross-border trade.
