Moscow, Russia – The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that its air defense systems shot down and intercepted 223 Ukrainian drones
in the past twelve hours, in one of the largest operations to counter air attacks in the country in recent times.
Activating air warning and defense systems
The ministry explained in a statement that the drones targeted several Russian regions, but air defense systems successfully engaged and destroyed them before they reached their targets.
It confirmed that specialized forces continue to monitor the airspace and address any potential threats.
The statement added that the attacks were spread across several regions, prompting the simultaneous activation of air defense
and early warning systems as part of military measures aimed at protecting vital facilities and infrastructure from drone attacks.
International concerns about the widening scope of the confrontations
These developments come amid continued military escalation between Russia and Ukraine,
with both sides increasingly relying on drones to carry out long-range attacks targeting military sites and infrastructure facilities.
