Beirut, Lebanon – The Lebanese political scene witnessed an escalation in tensions after Lebanese President Joseph Aoun accused Israel of violating existing agreements through its continued military operations,
while Hezbollah held the Lebanese authorities responsible for dealing with the recent developments and what it described as the continued Israeli violations.
Protecting Lebanese sovereignty and confronting violations
Aoun stressed that the repeated Israeli violations pose a threat to stability and undermine efforts to establish calm on the border.
He called on the international community and the sponsors of the agreement to assume
their responsibilities and exert pressure to halt these violations and ensure adherence to the signed agreements.
In contrast, Hezbollah asserted that the Lebanese state bears the responsibility of pursuing the matter politically and diplomatically.
It demanded more effective measures to protect Lebanese sovereignty and address the repeated violations, given the continued tension on the southern border.
Warnings of escalating clashes
Aoun’s remarks come at a time of heightened security concerns in southern Lebanon, with warnings persisting about the potential
for escalation, amid regional and international efforts to maintain the ceasefire and prevent a wider conflict.
The international community continues to urge all parties to exercise restraint, adhere to existing agreements,
and work towards de-escalation in order to protect civilians and preserve stability in the region.
