Aden, Yemen – The Houthi group in Yemen announced on Monday an immediate ban on maritime navigation linked to Saudi Arabia, in a new escalation of regional tensions, confirming that the decision came into effect immediately upon the issuance of the statement.
The group’s military spokesman said the move comes within what he described as the “blockade for blockade” equation, noting that the group’s forces will deal with ships linked to Saudi Arabia in accordance with the procedures announced in the statement.
There has been no official comment yet from the Saudi authorities regarding the Houthi announcement, while the decision is expected to raise new concerns about the security of navigation in the Red Sea and its potential impact on maritime trade in the region.
