Tehran – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi responded firmly to statements made by US President Donald Trump, in which he described the United States as the “protector of the strait.” Araghchi emphasized that Tehran categorically rejects any attempts to impose foreign hegemony over the Strait of Hormuz or to undermine its national sovereignty, stressing that the security of regional waterways is the exclusive responsibility of the countries in the region.
The Iranian Response to US Statements
The Iranian Foreign Minister clarified that his country will vigorously continue to defend its strategic interests and legitimate rights in the Gulf waters. Araghchi stated that such remarks from the US administration will not succeed in altering Tehran’s steadfast positions. Instead, they only serve to fuel tension and deepen the crisis in a region already suffering from a rapid and unprecedented military escalation.
Context of Escalation and Global Repercussions
These Iranian statements come in the midst of an open and escalating confrontation between Washington and Tehran, coinciding with continuous US military strikes targeting locations inside Iranian territory. This political and field clash aligns with growing international fears of the conflict spiraling out of control, threatening a wider confrontation with potentially disastrous repercussions for maritime security and the stability of global energy supplies passing through the vital artery of the Strait of Hormuz.
