Islamabad, Pakistan – Pakistan urged the United States and Iran to uphold their commitments under the memorandum of understanding it brokered.
It stressed that the agreement remains a crucial foundation for promoting understanding and stability in the region.
This came hours after US President Donald Trump announced the end of the interim agreement with Tehran.
Call to adhere to the memorandum of understanding
The Pakistani Foreign Ministry issued a statement declaring that Islamabad calls upon all parties to uphold
their commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
The statement emphasized that the MOU forms a solid foundation for mutual understanding, respect, and regional prosperity.
The Ministry further explained that continued adherence to the MOU’s provisions is the best way to maintain stability.
Moreover, it helps prevent a new escalation that could jeopardize regional security.
He acted after Trump’s statements
Pakistan’s stance came after US President Donald Trump declared that the interim agreement reached with Iran last month was “over.”
This raised questions about the future of the understandings brokered by Islamabad between Washington and Tehran.
Pakistan is one of the key mediators who have played a role in bridging the gap between the two sides in recent times.
This is part of regional efforts to reduce tensions and prevent the region from sliding into a wider military confrontation.
Efforts to maintain stability
The Pakistani Foreign Ministry affirmed that Pakistan will continue
to support diplomatic solutions and encourage dialogue among all parties.
It emphasized the importance of prioritizing understanding
and adhering to signed agreements to serve regional security and stability.
This development comes at a time of escalating tensions in the region,
fueled by reciprocal attacks and heightened activity in maritime corridors.
These events unfold amidst international and regional efforts to bring the parties back to the negotiating table and maintain stability.
