Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) affirmed that the Iranian attack targeting
a Qatari gas tanker and endangering its crew constitutes a dangerous escalation that threatens the security and stability of the region.
He also warned of the potential repercussions of such actions on maritime security and global energy supplies.

This reflects negatively on regional security and stability,
and also threatens global trade and energy supply chains that pass through strategic sea lanes.
He added that maritime security is a collective responsibility, and that any targeting of commercial vessels
necessitates strengthening international efforts to protect shipping lanes and maintain regional stability.
A call for respect for international law
The Secretary-General called on all parties to abide by international law and maritime navigation rules.
He also urged them to refrain from any actions that could escalate tensions or endanger civilians and commercial vessels.
He affirmed that the Gulf Cooperation Council continues to monitor
developments in coordination with member states and international partners.
He emphasized the importance of taking practical steps to ensure maritime security, maintain stability in the Gulf,
and prevent any escalation that could threaten regional and international security.
