Jerusalem, Palestine – Four Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes and gunfire in southern Gaza, according to health officials and medics.
This comes as military operations continue despite a ceasefire agreement in place since last October.
Sporadic raids on Khan Younis
Medics said an Israeli airstrike targeted the al-Mawasi area west of Khan Younis,
killing one man and wounding two children.
The Israeli military stated that the strike targeted a Hamas operative.
Medical sources added that other airstrikes targeted the vicinity of
a displaced persons camp in Khan Younis, killing one person and wounding five others.
A third bombing of the city also killed one Palestinian and wounded three others.
The sources confirmed that the Israeli army claimed to have targeted militants in both attacks.
One killed by gunfire near Rafah
Later, medics and witnesses said that Israeli gunfire near the city of Rafah,
south of the Gaza Strip, led to the death of a Palestinian and the wounding of nine others.
This brings the number of victims of Israeli attacks during the day to four.
While there was no immediate comment from the Israeli army regarding the shooting incident.
Israel continues to carry out frequent airstrikes inside the Gaza Strip.
It says it targets armed elements who pose a threat to its forces
or who participated in the October 7, 2013, offensive.
Hamas, meanwhile, accuses Israel of violating the ceasefire agreement.
Tensions persist despite the truce
According to both sides, more than 1,070 Palestinians, mostly civilians,
have been killed since the ceasefire came into effect nearly eight months ago.
In addition, four Israeli soldiers have been killed.
Israeli forces control more than 60% of the Gaza Strip and continue to patrol what they call a buffer zone.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu maintains that Israel will not withdraw from these areas.
The humanitarian conditions in the Strip continue to deteriorate significantly.
Most of the population lives in camps, tents, or inside damaged buildings.
This came after the widespread destruction caused by the ongoing military operations.
