Tripoli, Libya – The Libyan capital, Tripoli, experienced a state of security and service mobilization after a fire broke out inside a headquarters belonging to the Internal Security Agency. The incident required an urgent intervention by Civil Defense teams, who rushed to the site and worked for several hours to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading to neighboring buildings in the densely populated area.

Containment Efforts and Site Security

Local sources reported that thick flames were rising from parts of the building. Immediately after the incident, a tight security cordon was imposed around the perimeter of the headquarters to facilitate the movement of fire trucks and ensure the safety of nearby residents, amidst frantic efforts by firefighting teams to control the blaze before it could cause structural collapses or aggravate material damage.

No Human Casualties, Awaiting Investigations

As of now, no official statements have been released indicating any human casualties or injuries among staff or rescue teams. Meanwhile, the causes behind the fire remain undisclosed, as Libyan circles await the results of the technical investigations initiated by competent authorities immediately after the fire was extinguished, to determine whether the blaze resulted from an electrical short circuit, technical failure, or other causes.

Authorities Begin Site Inspection and Damage Assessment

The relevant Libyan authorities have begun procedures to inspect the site, collect forensic evidence, and conduct a precise assessment of the material damage to the building and its contents. These investigations are being conducted as part of the authorities’ commitment to transparency and accountability, emphasizing the need to identify the true causes of the incident to ensure it is not repeated.

Security Institutions’ Readiness in the Spotlight

This incident comes at a time when Libyan security institutions are making double efforts to enhance the readiness of their vital headquarters and secure their strategic facilities. The incident has sparked public and human rights calls for accelerating the pace of investigations and working to upgrade professional safety procedures within all security and government headquarters in the country to avoid such accidents that affect the stability and operation of institutions.
