Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – Jassem Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), affirmed that the Council’s coordination meeting supported efforts
to reach a final agreement that contributes to strengthening security and stability in the region.
He also emphasized the importance of diplomatic solutions in addressing regional challenges.
Supporting the diplomatic track
He explained that the meeting welcomed the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran.
It considered it a positive step towards reducing tensions and creating an atmosphere conducive
to further understandings that serve the region’s security and stability.
The Secretary-General noted that the GCC states support political efforts and constructive dialogue to address contentious issues.
This contributes to avoiding escalation and enhancing opportunities for regional stability.
He affirmed that peaceful solutions remain the best option for addressing crises and achieving collective security in the region.
Strengthening regional security
He explained that the coordination meeting welcomed the memorandum of understanding signed between Washington and Tehran.
He also expressed hope that it would form the basis for reaching a comprehensive agreement
that addresses outstanding issues and strengthens trust among the parties involved.
He added that any future agreement must take into account the interests
of the region’s countries and enhance their security and stability.
The Secretary-General stressed the importance of continued coordination
and consultation among the region’s countries to confront common challenges.
He affirmed that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) will continue to support all initiatives
that contribute to consolidating security and stability.
He also noted that the next phase requires intensifying diplomatic efforts and regional dialogue
to achieve development and prosperity for the region’s peoples and safeguard their security and strategic interests.
