London, Britain – British minister International Development Secretary Jenny Chapman has called on Israel to withdraw from southern Lebanon.
This is intended to create the conditions for displaced families to return to their homes after months of military tensions.
British call to end tensions
The British International Development Secretary told Reuters that an Israeli withdrawal
from southern Lebanon was essential to enabling displaced people to return to their homes.
she also noted that the continuation of the current situation was exacerbating
the suffering of civilians and increasing the scale of the humanitarian crisis.
Focus on the safe return of displaced persons
The British International Development Secretary of State explained that the priority
at this stage is to provide a safe and stable environment that allows for the permanent return of residents.
It must also be ensured that they can live in their homes without fear of renewed hostilities.
Escalating humanitarian context
The British International Development Secretary’s remarks come amid ongoing tensions on Lebanon’s southern border.
This is occurring against a backdrop of growing international calls for de-escalation
and for political and humanitarian solutions to be found that can restore stability to the region.
