Cairo, Egypt – Egypt has invited Palestinian factions to an emergency meeting in Cairo next Wednesday, with the participation of Hamas and several other Palestinian groups. This comes as part of efforts to advance the ceasefire and prevent a further deterioration of the situation in the Gaza Strip.
According to informed sources, the meeting is taking place
amid the current stalemate in the second phase of negotiations for the Gaza agreement.
It also comes amidst intensive Arab and international efforts and contacts in recent days
to prevent the collapse of existing understandings and the exacerbation of the humanitarian and security crisis in the Strip.
Discussion of the stalled second phase negotiations
The meeting is scheduled to discuss the reasons for the stalled negotiations on the second phase of the Gaza agreement.
Additionally, ways to relaunch the negotiation process between the parties involved will be explored.
Cairo, in coordination with regional and international mediators, is working to bridge the gaps between the various parties.
This aims to ensure the continuation of efforts to de-escalate tensions and consolidate stability on the ground in the Gaza Strip.
Sources indicate that the meeting will include mediators involved in the Palestinian issue,
along with representatives from the Gaza Peace Council.
In this context, the issue of security management in the Strip will be among the most prominent topics for discussion.
The sources added that the agenda includes discussing mechanisms for transferring security responsibilities
to the new administrative committee tasked with managing the affairs of the Strip.
This decision is being made within the framework of arrangements
aimed at reorganizing the administrative and security situation in the coming phase.
Developments within Hamas
Sources revealed that Hamas has received international assurances regarding the potential integration of
some of its security personnel into the proposed new arrangements for the Gaza Strip.
They also indicated that internal elections within the movement are not an immediate priority at present,
due to their connection to a range of political, security, and organizational factors.
The sources confirmed that the movement’s leadership council will continue its current functions.
In the same vein, Khalil al-Hayya remains in his leadership position within the movement in the Gaza Strip.
The anticipated meeting comes at a time when political and diplomatic efforts are ongoing to find a way out of the current crisis.
Furthermore, these efforts aim to preserve the possibility of reaching broader understandings regarding the future of the Gaza Strip.
