Moscow, Russia – Russian President Vladimir Putin accused Ukraine of carrying out a “terrorist attack” in the Luhansk region, claiming that the attack killed at least six people. This comes amid escalating military tensions between Moscow and Kyiv.
In official remarks, Putin stated that he had instructed the Russian Defense Ministry to prepare options for responding to the Ukrainian attack on Luhansk. He also emphasized that Moscow would take appropriate measures to protect its security and its citizens.
Deaths in Luhansk
The Russian president stated that the attack resulted in a number of casualties, including civilians. He added that infrastructure in the eastern Ukrainian region controlled by pro-Russian forces was also damaged.
Ukrainian authorities did not immediately comment on the Russian accusations or the details of the attack Putin described.
Putin’s remarks come amid ongoing military clashes between Russia and Ukraine. Exchanges of fire, including drone and missile attacks, have escalated in recent weeks.
Russian moves to respond
Moscow had recently intensified its warnings against targeting areas controlled by Russian or pro-Russian forces. It also accused Kyiv of expanding military operations into Russian territory.
Putin indicated that the Russian Ministry of Defense is currently studying potential response options. However, he did not disclose the nature of the military or security measures that Moscow might take in the coming period.
This new escalation is raising international concerns about a wider war. Meanwhile, Western diplomatic efforts continue to provide military and political support to Ukraine in its confrontation with Russian forces.
These developments coincide with the continuation of Western sanctions against Moscow. There are also growing warnings about the war’s repercussions on European security, international stability, and global energy and food markets.
