New York, USA – The UN affirmed that the ongoing negotiations between Lebanon and Israel represent a crucial opportunity to reach a ceasefire and de-escalate the rising tensions on Lebanon’s southern border.

In official statements, the international organization stressed the importance of capitalizing

on the current negotiating process to reach understandings that contribute to the protection of civilians.

It also emphasized the need to work towards preventing the escalation of confrontations in the region.

International calls to halt the escalation

The UN statements come amid intensive regional and international diplomatic efforts aimed

at consolidating the ceasefire and preventing the situation from escalating into a wider conflict.

This is especially crucial given the continued military tensions and cross-border shelling.

The organization stressed the need to adhere to international humanitarian law

and ensure the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure.

It also emphasized its support for all efforts aimed at achieving stability in the region.

Efforts to consolidate stability

The Lebanese arena has recently witnessed escalating international pressure to reach security

and political understandings that would guarantee a cessation of hostilities.

At the same time, there are concerns about the repercussions of any further escalation on regional security.

International parties involved continue their mediation efforts and push for a diplomatic settlement.

There are hopes that the current negotiations will pave the way for de-escalation and an end to the war.
