Beijing – U.S. President Donald Trump has revealed that Chinese President Xi Jinping pledged during their talks in Beijing not to provide Iran with any military equipment. Trump emphasized that the Chinese leader expressed this stance “forcefully” during their meeting, marking a significant diplomatic development amidst escalating tensions in the Middle East.
A Chinese Commitment on Iran
In statements to Fox News, Trump described Xi Jinping’s pledge as a “major statement.” He noted that Washington had secured clear assurances from Beijing that no military support would be extended to Tehran, a move the U.S. administration views as vital for its diplomatic pressure campaign.
Economic Ties and Oil Imports Continue
Conversely, Trump clarified that President Xi confirmed the continuation of economic relations between China and Iran, specifically regarding oil. China relies heavily on Iranian oil and intends to continue its purchases. The two leaders also discussed:
- The Strait of Hormuz: President Xi expressed a keen interest in maintaining the stability of global trade and energy flows through the strait.
- Maritime Tolls: Xi reportedly voiced dissatisfaction with reports of Iran imposing tolls in the strait, stressing that freedom of navigation is a vital issue for the global economy.
These revelations come as international efforts intensify to contain the Iranian crisis and secure international waterways, positioning U.S.-China understandings at the forefront of global political dynamics.
