New Delhi, India – The Indian Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday strongly condemned the attack on an Indian-flagged cargo ship off the coast of Oman, describing the incident as “unacceptable.”
This statement follows maritime reports confirming that the ship was struck by an explosion of unknown origin.
The explosion caused the vessel to sink completely in the Arabian Sea, south of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Details of the accident and rescue operation
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs stated in an official statement:
“The targeting of commercial vessels and civilian sailors is deeply regrettable and cannot be tolerated.”
Authorities in New Delhi confirmed that all crew members are safe.
They also expressed their sincere gratitude to the Omani authorities who intervened effectively to save lives at sea and ensure their safety.
Speculation about the nature of the attack
Although no official group has claimed responsibility for the attack,
maritime security experts believe the explosion was caused by a direct strike from a drone or missile.
This analysis comes amid escalating security tensions in the region’s waterways.
In a noteworthy coincidence, the incident occurred during a speech by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi in New Delhi.
While he did not directly address the attack, he affirmed that the Strait of Hormuz would remain
“open to all commercial vessels cooperating with the Iranian navy.”
