  • Politics is done in committees, not in statements
  • Existential challenges and absolute support for the person in charge

Baghdad, Iraq – Ammar al-Hakim, head of the National State Forces Alliance, announced a clear and firm stance today regarding the formation of the new Iraqi government. He described supporting the prime minister-designate, Ali Falih al-Zubaidi, as a “national obligation” necessitated by the current circumstances. He asserted that this support should be free from narrow political calculations.

Politics is done in committees, not in statements

During an expanded meeting held this morning with the parliamentary bloc of the Alliance, Hakim delivered firm

and strong messages to political forces and parliamentarians.

He also stressed the need to change the traditional pattern of political work.

In a decisive tone, Hakim said, “Real politics is made within specialized parliamentary committees,

not through media platforms and grandstanding,” calling on representatives

to activate their legislative and oversight roles more deeply and behind the scenes.

Hakim called on all political forces to bear their historical responsibilities before the Iraqi people in confronting the critical challenges.

He emphasized that “whoever holds a legislative position must be a genuine partner in resolving the crisis, not a party to creating it.”

He also praised the active participation of the representatives of the State Forces bloc,

considering this distinction “a weighty responsibility that requires intensification, not celebration.”

Existential challenges and absolute support for the person in charge

Regarding the government formation process, Hakim painted a clear picture of the magnitude of the challenges facing Iraq on the political, economic, and financial levels.

He asserted that the country is at a critical juncture, necessitating a unified effort behind the incoming government.

He explicitly stated that supporting Ali Falih al-Zaidi in forming the cabinet is not merely a fleeting political choice or a partisan maneuver.

Rather, it is a “national imperative dictated by the gravity of the situation and the need for stability.”

He concluded his call by emphasizing the necessity of deepening cooperation and harmony

with other political blocs and engaging seriously in drafting legislation that directly impacts citizens’ lives.

Hakim stressed that the National State Forces Alliance will remain committed to supporting the state

and its institutions in confronting the financial and economic crises.

He also affirmed that this requires a clear executive vision led by the designated prime minister and his anticipated team.

Parliamentary sessions to grant confidence to the government are expected to commence

within the next few days, amidst widespread public and international anticipation.
