Washington – US President Donald Trump announced that the United States has achieved “significant progress” in combating drug trafficking, asserting that strict security measures have slashed the influx of narcotics into the country by a record 97%. Trump emphasized that this figure reflects the success of current policies in safeguarding internal security and draining the resources of international smuggling networks.
Shifting Smuggling Routes and Maritime Surveillance
In statements reported by local media, the President noted that security data previously showed smuggling networks relied on maritime routes for 50% of drug entries. He confirmed that a widespread crackdown on these sea routes through increased security operations forced these networks to seek alternative paths, necessitating a strategic shift toward tightening control over land ports and borders.
Securing Borders and Preemptive Strikes on Networks
Trump explained that his administration has succeeded in broadly securing the borders by enhancing inspection procedures, electronic surveillance, and increasing security deployment along the border strip. He stressed that the battle against international drug cartels is ongoing, reaffirming Washington’s commitment to pursuing these networks by land and sea to prevent the infiltration of narcotics as part of a comprehensive national security strategy.
