N’Djamena, Chad – Military sources in Chad announced that at least 24 soldiers were killed in an armed attack launched by Boko Haram on a military post in the Lake Chad region. This marks a new escalation in the security situation in the volatile border region.
According to initial reports, the attack occurred during the night when a group of militants infiltrated a military base on one of the islands in the Barka Toloroum area. They then opened fire directly on the stationed troops, resulting in deaths and injuries among the soldiers.
Sources indicated that clashes continued for some time before Chadian forces were able to repel the attack and regain control of the site. Extensive search operations were launched to track down the attackers within the rugged terrain.
The Lake Chad region is considered one of the most significant hotspots in West Africa, where armed groups have been active for years. These groups exploit the complex geography and the difficulty of establishing complete security control over the islands and waterways.
