Beirut, Lebanon – News circulating on social media about the death of the artist Fairouz has sparked widespread sadness and concern among the public, after posts claiming her passing at the age of 91 circulated, prompting many to react to the news before verifying its accuracy.
swift media denial
Lebanese media outlets and specialized artistic platforms were quick to deny these reports, stressing that they were baseless, especially given the great status that Fairouz enjoys in the hearts of the Arab public, and the connection of her voice to the memories of successive generations.
A statement that settles the controversy
For his part, the head of the Musicians Syndicate in Lebanon, Farid Abu Said, came out to put an end to the rumors, categorically denying what had been circulating about Fairouz’s death or even her retirement from singing, stressing that these reports were completely unfounded.
A call for accuracy
Abu Saeed stressed in press statements that circulating such rumors without verifying their sources causes confusion, calling on the media and social media users to be accurate before publishing any information related to artistic icons of the stature of Fairouz.
The reason for the absence from the spotlight
He explained that Fairouz’s recent absence from the public eye is due to personal circumstances she has been experiencing since the death of her son, Heli Rahbani, last January, which has led her to remain at home and away from the public spotlight. Fairouz is spending this time in quiet family life with her daughter, Rima Rahbani, preferring to stay out of the limelight, and this is unrelated to any artistic decisions concerning her career.
