Cairo, Egypt – The first official session of the proposed “National Council for Men” is scheduled for May 17 in Egypt. This session is part of a new initiative aimed at addressing men’s issues within society. It comes amidst escalating discussions about rising divorce rates and increasing calls for amendments to the Personal Status Law.
According to the initiative’s organizers, this move is a response to growing social challenges, primarily the rising rates of divorce and the resulting family and social burdens. Furthermore, this step complements ongoing calls to review certain provisions of legislation governing family relations in Egypt.
The first session, which will include several legal and public figures, among them Counselor Rabie El-Malawani, Professor Rabie Sedky, and Counselor Essam Agag, is scheduled to discuss the general objectives of the anticipated council. It will also discuss its operational mechanisms. In addition, priority issues will be raised should the council be officially established.
The initiators of the proposal believe that establishing an entity specializing in men’s issues in Egypt could contribute to a broader societal dialogue on the balance of rights and responsibilities within the family. This comes amidst the rapid social transformations taking place in society.
These moves coincide with growing calls for amendments to the Personal Status Law to address existing problems and achieve greater family stability. This is all happening while awaiting the outcome of the upcoming constituent assembly session.
