Washington, DC – CNN, citing recent shipping data, reports that maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remains at unprecedentedly low levels. This is a result of the escalating military tensions in the region.

Despite the near-total paralysis, ship tracking data detected an Indian-owned oil tanker transiting the strait in recent hours.

This move has been described as exceptional and risky given the current circumstances.

Record decline in shipping traffic

Reports indicate that the Strait of Hormuz, a vital artery for global energy trade, is experiencing

a sharp decline in the number of transiting vessels compared to normal levels.

This decrease is attributed to heightened security risks and the implementation of stringent transit protocols.

Consequently, these circumstances have prompted most global shipping companies

to reroute their vessels to secure waiting areas away from conflict zones.

These companies are awaiting sufficient international guarantees before resuming normal commercial shipping operations.

Details of the Indian tanker’s crossing

According to maritime sources, an Indian-owned oil tanker successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz in the past few hours.

This makes it one of the few vessels to complete its passage under such close monitoring.

This event occurred under exceptional circumstances.

Meanwhile, Indian authorities are coordinating closely with regional powers to ensure the safety of their crews,

especially given the heightened vigilance and anticipation surrounding the strait among global marine insurance companies.

Consequences of a blocked waterway

Economic research centers have warned that the continued low levels of maritime traffic threaten

the stability of global energy supplies and are driving shipping costs skyrocketing.

With the ongoing “maritime standstill” in the Strait of Hormuz, pressure on international markets is mounting.

Meanwhile, all eyes remain on diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalating the military situation

and ensuring freedom of international navigation in accordance with established international laws and norms.
