New York, USA – A senior UN official confirmed that the United Nations is looking to expand its support for child welfare programs in Syria, given the ongoing humanitarian challenges directly affecting millions of children within the country. This move comes as a result of years of conflict and its far-reaching consequences across various vital sectors.

She explained that UN efforts are focused on strengthening essential services related to child protection, including healthcare, psychosocial support, and ensuring access to education, as well as providing safe environments for the most vulnerable children. Furthermore, particular emphasis is being placed on areas of conflict and displacement.

The official stressed the importance of intensifying international cooperation with local partners and NGOs to ensure that aid reaches its intended beneficiaries effectively. She noted that funding shortages remain one of the most significant challenges hindering the expansion of these programs, despite the growing needs on the ground.

She also noted that children in Syria face multiple risks, including dropping out of school, child labor, and exposure to violence and exploitation. Therefore, a comprehensive response is needed that goes beyond mere relief aid and extends to building sustainable protection systems.

In this context, she called for mobilizing more international resources to ensure the continuity of child welfare programs. She emphasized that investing in childhood is a fundamental pillar of any future efforts to restore stability and development in Syria.

Amidst the challenges and hopes, the issue of children remains at the forefront of humanitarian priorities, as international efforts strive to bridge the gap in needs. Furthermore, a more stable foundation is being laid for the future of an entire generation that has grown up at the heart of the crisis.
