  • The West Bank and the Two-State Solution: Security Through Settlements is Impossible

Paris – French President Emmanuel Macron has reaffirmed his country’s “strict” commitment to Israel’s security, while simultaneously issuing a blunt condemnation of military practices in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon. Following talks with Lebanese PM Nawaf Salam, Macron clarified that civilian protection is not an option but an international duty. Accordingly, the French stance on the Gaza and Lebanon war represents an attempt to carve a diplomatic path that balances the right to self-defense with the necessity of halting disproportionate attacks that threaten the fragile truce and undermine peace efforts.

Condemning “Indiscriminate Strikes”: Macron Warns Against Fueling Cycles of Violence

The French President expressed grave concern over civilian casualties, describing Israeli operations in certain areas as “indiscriminate.” He asserted that targeting infrastructure in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip does not serve long-term security but instead fuels hatred and expands the conflict. Obviously, Paris is pushing for the truce to cover all fronts, as Macron warned that continued military operations despite ceasefire agreements directly threatens international credibility and ongoing diplomatic initiatives.

The West Bank and the Two-State Solution: Security Through Settlements is Impossible

Macron addressed the volatile situation in the West Bank, viewing settlement expansion and restrictions on Palestinians as obstacles to the “two-state solution.” He stressed that Israel’s true security lies in a fair political settlement ensuring Palestinian rights. As a result, he confirmed that France will continue international pressure to halt activities that perpetuate occupation. Accordingly, the French stance on the Gaza and Lebanon war remains an effort to restore France’s role as a “balanced mediator” and maintain ties with Arab nations amid rising tensions.
