Washington, DC – The US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported, according to international media outlets, that 23 commercial vessels complied with US directives and altered their course or turned back in the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz as part of maritime security operations in the region. CENTCOM stated that US forces deployed air and naval assets, including Apache attack helicopters. These helicopters were deployed to conduct surveillance, interception, and secure vessel traffic in one of the world’s most important waterways.
U.S. Central Command confirmed that the Strait of Hormuz is not completely closed, but is under heightened security measures and close military monitoring amid escalating regional tensions. U.S. forces are also closely monitoring maritime traffic. This comes at a time of growing concern about the impact of the tensions on global energy supplies, according to media reports citing CENTCOM.
