Tel Aviv, Israel – In a significant security and military development, the Israeli army announced on Wednesday the assassination of Mehdi Vafaei, one of the most prominent engineering minds in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, whom it described as “the head of the engineering branch of the Quds Force in Lebanon.” This operation comes amidst the ongoing and direct military escalation between Israel and Iran.
Details of the intelligence operation
According to an official statement issued by the Israeli military spokesperson, the Air Force carried out a precision strike on Tuesday targeting Vafaei in the city of Mahallat, located in the Markazi province of Iran. The statement further confirmed that the operation was based on accurate military intelligence that enabled the Israeli Air Force to pinpoint the target’s location and successfully assassinate him. This explains earlier reports of explosions and shelling in areas of Mahallat.
A proven track record of “underground projects”
The Israeli military revealed details of Wafai’s career, which spanned more than 20 years as the top engineering officer for the Quds Force. According to Israeli claims, Wafai was the mastermind behind the development of “underground construction projects” in both Lebanon and Syria. He was also directly responsible for establishing infrastructure and fortified sites for Hezbollah and the Syrian government of President Bashar al-Assad. The Israeli report further indicated that Wafai managed “dozens of secret projects” used to store advanced weapons and precision missiles, hidden from aerial surveillance.
