Gaza, Palestine – Health officials in the Gaza Strip reported that at least two Palestinians were killed in an Israeli airstrike that targeted a car in Gaza City. This incident is among the deadliest attacks the Strip has witnessed in recent days.
Medics said the strike occurred near Al-Azhar University in western Gaza City, where the two victims were traveling in a car when it was hit. Their identities have not yet been confirmed, while several people in the vicinity were injured.
A car was targeted near Al-Azhar University.
Paramedics explained that an Israeli warplane directly targeted the vehicle while it was in the western part of Gaza City. The attack killed those inside and injured several civilians near the blast site.
Health officials indicated that the injured were transferred to hospitals in the Gaza Strip for treatment. Meanwhile, ambulance and civil defense teams began evacuation operations at the scene.
Violence continues despite ceasefire
The pace of attacks in the Gaza Strip has slowed since the start of the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran about a week ago. However, Israeli forces have carried out several attacks in recent days that have resulted in Palestinian deaths.
There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military regarding the airstrike that targeted the car in Gaza City.
Death toll since October
Israel and Hamas reached a US-brokered ceasefire agreement in Gaza that went into effect last October. However, violence has continued almost daily, with both sides accusing each other of violating the agreement.
According to the Gaza Health Ministry, at least 640 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire since the ceasefire began. Israel says four of its soldiers have been killed by militants in the Gaza Strip during the same period.
The Gaza Strip has suffered widespread destruction as a result of the war, which has lasted for more than two years. Health authorities in the Strip indicate that the war has killed more than 72,000 Palestinians and reduced large parts of the territory to rubble.
