Karachi, Pakistan – At least 11 people were killed and 8 others were injured on Sunday, February 15, 2026, in a horrific collision between a passenger bus and a transport trailer on the national highway near Tando Masti in Pakistan’s Sindh province.
Details of the incident and initial investigations
A statement from the National Highway Police (NHMP) reported that the bus was traveling from Bahawalpur to Karachi when it collided with a large transport trailer. Initial police reports attributed the accident to the “negligence and recklessness” of the bus driver, resulting in the tragic outcome. Rescue teams and security patrols rushed to the scene immediately after the collision. The deceased and injured were transported to nearby hospitals, while authorities began clearing the wreckage to reopen the partially disrupted traffic.
Official action and national condolences
Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of life, directing the Sindh provincial government to provide the best possible medical care to the injured. Zardari also called for a “coordinated strategy” to ensure strict enforcement of traffic regulations and prevent the recurrence of such tragedies. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Governor Kamran Tisuri offered their condolences to the victims’ families, issuing strict directives to security officials to enforce stringent controls on highways. This incident comes just days after another tragedy on the M9 highway near Karachi that claimed 13 lives, renewing concerns about road safety in the country, which also saw similar accidents in 2025 that resulted in dozens of deaths.
