Brussels, Belgium – The European Union’s foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, said the EU may designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a “terrorist organization” as early as Thursday. This move would tighten sanctions and increase international pressure on Tehran.
Kallas explained that the decision aims to address the IRGC’s regional activities, including its alleged support for armed groups. It also aims to counter human rights abuses and promote security and stability in the region.
The decision is expected to pave the way for stricter European legal and security measures, including travel bans and asset freezes. This will further isolate Tehran internationally and reflects the EU’s determination to confront any regional escalation by Iran.
The European move comes amid escalating protests inside Iran and growing concerns about rising tensions between Tehran and Western capitals. Meanwhile, the world is closely watching the unfolding crisis and its impact on the international stage.
