Moscow, Russia – The Russian Defense Ministry announced today that its forces carried out a precision strike that destroyed a Ukrainian border guard command center in the Sumy region, located in the north of the country and close to the Russian border. This represents a new escalation reflecting the heightened tensions on the northern front.
The ministry said in a statement that the operation was conducted using high-precision weapons and targeted a military facility used to coordinate the movements of border guard units. It was also used to direct field operations against Russian forces. The statement added that the strike completely destroyed the center, thereby crippling its command and control capabilities.
Moscow indicated that the targeted site played a pivotal role in supporting Ukrainian military activities near the border. It considered its destruction a “qualitative blow” to Ukrainian military infrastructure in the region.
There was no immediate comment from the Ukrainian side regarding the extent of the losses or the nature of the damage. This comes amid local reports of loud explosions heard in the vicinity of the region and heightened security measures.
This development comes as military operations escalate along Ukraine’s northeastern border. Sumy district is also witnessing frequent exchanges of shelling, reflecting the widening scope of the confrontations and the increasing focus on targeting command and logistical support centers.
