Niamey, Niger – Twelve people were killed in a violent armed attack on a police station in Niger, in the latest incident reflecting the escalating security threats plaguing the country, particularly in its volatile regions.

According to security sources, unidentified gunmen launched a surprise attack on the police station, resulting in the deaths of several security personnel and civilians, as well as injuries to others.

The sources explained that security forces imposed a tight security cordon around the site of the attack and began extensive search operations to track down the perpetrators, amid fears that the attack was linked to armed groups active in the region.

This attack comes amid a deteriorating security situation in Niger, where the country has witnessed a surge in attacks targeting security and military institutions for months, posing increasing challenges for the government in restoring stability and protecting civilians.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, while authorities have confirmed that investigations are underway to uncover the circumstances of the incident and the identities of the perpetrators, vowing to pursue those involved and bring them to justice.
