Ankara, Turkey – Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced that Ankara is prepared to send troops to the Gaza Strip as part of any international or regional arrangements aimed at halting the aggression and ensuring the protection of civilians. He also affirmed that his country will not stand idly by in the face of what is happening in the Strip.
In statements carried by international news agencies, Fidan explained that Turkey considers the humanitarian situation in Gaza to have reached a catastrophic stage. He further emphasized that the international community is obligated to take practical steps that go beyond mere statements of condemnation, indicating that deploying troops could be one of the options on the table if the political will and international backing are present.
The Turkish Foreign Minister added that his country is continuing its contacts with regional and international parties to discuss mechanisms for de-escalation and a ceasefire. He also stressed that any potential military presence would aim to protect civilians and support stability, not to escalate the conflict.
Fidan’s statements come at a highly sensitive time, amidst mounting international pressure to halt military operations in Gaza. This is occurring against a backdrop of warnings that the conflict could widen if urgent political solutions are not reached. Observers believe that the Turkish stance represents a strong political message reflecting Ankara’s desire to play a more active role in the Palestinian issue. This comes at a time when the region is witnessing a realignment of roles and alliances.
