Damascus, Syria – Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa emphasized the importance of extending Syrian state sovereignty over all of the country’s territory without exception. This came as government forces advanced in areas of northern Syria.
This is a significant development on the ground. It reflects Damascus’s efforts to reassert control over areas that have been outside its influence for years.
In an official statement, al-Sharaa said that the unity of Syrian territory is a “red line that cannot be crossed.”
He also stressed that the state is determined to restore its full authority using all means necessary. The goal is to maintain stability and protect civilians.
He added that the ongoing operations in the north of the country are part of “the state’s duty to enforce the law and end all manifestations of division and chaos.”
Sporadic clashes
Recent days have witnessed significant advances by government forces in several northern regions. This occurred amidst sporadic clashes with local armed groups led by Kurdish factions and supported by the West.
Field sources reported that Syrian forces have reinforced their deployment along strategic axes, securing key roads and vital installations.
Damascus described this move as aimed at consolidating stability and preventing any security vacuum.
In the same context, al-Sharaa called on all local forces to engage in a comprehensive national dialogue under the auspices of the state.
He emphasized that an internal political solution remains the best option. However, it does not contradict “the state’s right to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
He indicated that the Syrian government is open to any initiatives that guarantee an end to the conflict and promote national reconciliation.
International warnings
This escalation comes at a time of increasing international warnings about the widening scope of the confrontations in northern Syria.
European parties have expressed their concern about the humanitarian and military repercussions of the government advance.
In contrast, Damascus asserts that its operations are being conducted according to well-considered plans. These plans take into account international law and the protection of civilians.
Observers believe that the government forces’ advance northward reflects a new shift in the balance of power on the ground.
Therefore, it may open the door to different political and security arrangements. This would occur if Damascus succeeds in consolidating its control and imposing a new equation based on the unity of the state and the restoration of its full authority.
