Cairo, Egypt – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty received a phone call from US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Wittkopf. This came as part of ongoing consultations between Cairo and Washington on pressing regional issues.
Strategic partnership with a leadership vision
The two sides began the call by discussing ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between Egypt and the United States. Both sides praised the distinguished relationship between President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and President Donald Trump.
They affirmed that Egyptian-American cooperation is a cornerstone for supporting security and stability in the Middle East. They also expressed a shared desire to develop bilateral cooperation in the political, security, and economic fields, in a way that serves the interests of both friendly nations.
Gaza roadmap: From truce to “technocratic committee”
The Gaza Strip was at the forefront of discussions, with Minister Abdel-Aati and the US envoy exchanging views on the necessary implementation measures following the transition to the second phase of President Donald Trump’s plan.
During the call, emphasis was placed on the need to fulfill the requirements of this phase, which include the immediate commencement of the work of the Palestinian technocratic committee upon its official formation. This also includes the deployment of an international stabilization force to monitor adherence to the ceasefire and ensure a complete Israeli withdrawal from the Strip. Furthermore, it includes the immediate initiation of the early recovery and comprehensive reconstruction phase.
Containing regional tensions and the Iranian issue
The call also addressed regional developments, particularly in Iran. Both sides stressed the imperative of de-escalation and reducing tensions to prevent the region from descending into chaos. Minister Abdel-Aati emphasized the need to create an environment conducive to diplomatic solutions. He also underscored the importance of reaching comprehensive political settlements that bolster regional security.
American praise for Egypt’s influence
For his part, US envoy Steve Wittkopf expressed his country’s deep appreciation for Egypt’s pivotal role in supporting regional stability. He also commended Cairo’s tireless efforts to contain crises and promote political solutions that contribute to calming tensions in the region.
