Bangkok, Thailand – Twenty-two people were killed and at least 30 others injured in a horrific train accident this morning in a rural area of Thailand. The train derailed and crashed into a section of infrastructure near the railway line, local authorities said.
Emergency teams reported extensive damage to the train carriages, hampering rescue efforts in the early hours. Ambulances and civil defense personnel rushed to the scene, and the injured were transported to nearby hospitals. Some are in critical condition.
The Thai Railway Authority explained that initial investigations point to a possible technical malfunction or excessive speed, without ruling out the impact of weather conditions. It confirmed that a comprehensive investigation has been launched to determine the causes of the accident and hold those responsible accountable if negligence is proven.
For its part, the Thai government announced its full support for the victims’ families and pledged to cover the medical expenses of the injured. It also emphasized the need to review safety procedures on railway lines to prevent the recurrence of such tragic accidents.
