Tel Aviv, Israel — The Israeli military carried out airstrikes today (Monday) targeting several areas in southern Lebanon. The strikes targeted sites and infrastructure belonging to Hezbollah and Hamas. This marks a new escalation despite the ceasefire agreement in effect since November 2024.
Field sources reported that the airstrikes hit the town of Alma al-Shaab in the Tyre district and the town of Ain al-Tineh in the Marjeyoun district. The operations took place amid intensive flights of Israeli warplanes and drones over the area.
The Israeli army spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, confirmed that Israeli forces are “carrying out attacks on Hezbollah and Hamas targets in Lebanon.”
Israeli drones
Following the warning, the Lebanese National News Agency reported that the municipality of Kfarhatta had begun evacuating the threatened area. It also evacuated neighboring buildings and shops. This coincided with Israeli drones flying at a very low altitude over the town.
The agency added that the road between the towns of Kafr Hati and Kafr Maliki was closed. Additionally, the road in the town of Annan between Sidon and Jezzine was closed as a precautionary measure. This was done in anticipation of any potential strike.
And this escalation comes at a time when the security situation along the southern border remains tense. This is despite the ceasefire agreement that ended a round of fighting lasting more than a year, which had included two months of open clashes.
Israel maintains that it continues to target what it describes as Hezbollah’s military infrastructure. Israel accuses the group of rearming and violating existing understandings. This raises concerns about a renewed slide into wider .escalation in the region
