Bangkok, Thailand – Thai and Cambodian authorities have been forced to close nearly 990 schools along their shared border following escalating military tensions and a recent border dispute.

The education ministries in both countries confirmed that the closure is temporary and aimed at protecting students and school staff. It also aimed to provide alternatives for distance learning during the crisis.

This decision came after an increase in clashes and gunfire in border areas. Both governments stressed that the safety of children and local communities is a top priority.

Official sources indicated that diplomatic negotiations are ongoing between Bangkok and Phnom Penh to de-escalate the situation. The possibility of gradually reopening schools will be assessed once the security situation improves.
