Moscow, Russia – Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Tuesday categorically denied claims made by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz that Moscow seeks to “restore the Soviet Union” and plans to “attack Europe.”
Peskov responded to a similar question by saying: “That’s not true: neither this nor that.”
“Impossible and disrespectful”
Peskov emphasized that Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated repeatedly that he does not want to restore the Soviet Union. He added that “that is impossible” and that “talking about it is disrespectful to our partners and allies in the Commonwealth of Independent States.”
Regarding the repeated claims about “Russia’s readiness to attack NATO,” the Kremlin spokesman asserted that this is utter nonsense. Peskov reiterated his call for everyone to “listen to the original source – President Putin.”
Mertz and the justification for increased armament
It should be noted that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz spoke again yesterday about the Russian “threat.” This is seen as an attempt to justify the significant increase in Germany’s military and defense spending.
