Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – The Saudi National Center for Meteorology has issued a widespread alert. This comes after forecasts predict heavy rain, flash floods, and thunderstorms in Mecca and Medina, starting tomorrow. These conditions are part of an unstable weather system affecting 11 other regions in the Kingdom.
The center explained that the expected rainfall will include, in addition to Mecca and Medina, the regions of Riyadh, Qassim, Hail, Tabuk, Al-Jawf, the Northern Borders, Al-Baha, Asir, Jazan, and the Eastern Province. The rainfall will vary between moderate and heavy, potentially leading to flash floods in some areas.
Weather experts indicated that cumulonimbus clouds will expand rapidly. This will occur during the early morning hours, accompanied by active surface winds that will stir up dust. In addition, there will be a decrease in horizontal visibility, especially on highways and in open areas.
The relevant authorities urged residents and travelers to exercise caution. They advised staying away from floodplains and valleys and adhering to civil defense instructions. Furthermore, staying updated on weather forecasts is essential.
Initial forecasts indicate that the weather conditions may persist for several days. Preparations have been made in various regions to address any emergencies that may arise from the expected heavy rains and flash floods.
