Islamabad, Pakistan- Three members of the Pakistani police force were killed on Tuesday in an armed attack targeting
their security patrol in the North Waziristan region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
This is according to Pakistani media reports, This attack is part of
a series of operations that the region has been witnessing for months.
This comes amid escalating activity by armed groups there.
Reports indicate that the attack occurred in the Bannu area,
where unknown gunmen opened fire on police officers while they were performing their duties.
This resulted in the immediate death of three of them.
After carrying out the attack, the perpetrators stole
the police weapons before fleeing to an unknown location.

Security sources added that police and army forces rushed to the scene
and began a large-scale search operation for the perpetrators of the attack.
An official investigation has also been opened to uncover the circumstances
of the incident and identify the party responsible.
No group has claimed responsibility as of the time of publication.
This is despite the fact that the region is witnessing activity by extremist elements
who have previously claimed responsibility for similar attacks.
North Waziristan is one of the most troubled regions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
