Damascus, Syria – A delegation of European ambassadors visited the monitoring and assessment center in Julis to learn about the latest developments in the southern Syrian province of As-Suwayda. They were able to meet with Sheikh Muwaffaq Tarif, the spiritual leader of the Druze community in Israel.
During the meeting, Sheikh Tarif presented the latest developments in Jabal al-Druze, providing a comprehensive report on the humanitarian situation and the community’s demands, most notably the release of all those abducted and the return of displaced persons to their villages.
The report, prepared by the center’s volunteers, also included new data on violations and attacks on the mountain during the last month.
The sheikh urged the European delegation to convey a message to their respective heads of government. He emphasized the necessity of European action and a clear stance regarding the terrorist attacks that targeted Suwaida last July, and the ongoing siege imposed upon it.
The delegation included the ambassadors: Nicholas Lutretti (Austria), Alexandra Rydmark (Sweden), Slavna Gergeva (Bulgaria), and Cornelius Corneliou (Cyprus), in addition to a British envoy and his accompanying delegation, and a team of volunteers from the center.
The monitoring center works to document the situation and convey the true picture to global public opinion. This is done in light of the systematic misinformation spread by some satellite channels and social media platforms.
