Nusentara, Indonesia – Indonesian authorities evacuated more than 900 hikers from the vicinity of Mount Semeru volcano on Java Island. This came after the volcano experienced ten eruptions yesterday, spewing massive columns of ash, lava, and rock up to 13 kilometers (6 miles) into the air.
Park official Sipti Wardani said, “All hikers and their guides are safe. The situation is under control.”
Authorities are maintaining the highest level of alert. Rescue teams are working to ensure the safe return of all hikers and are monitoring ongoing volcanic activity.
