On Monday evening, the UN Security Council approved the draft resolution submitted by the United States of America to support the “Trump Plan” concerning new arrangements in the Gaza Strip.
This took place in a session described as one of the most sensitive since the outbreak of the recent war.
The adoption of the resolution comes amid sharp international division over the future of the sector.
Pressure is mounting to find a political framework that restores stability
and lays the foundations for reconstruction.
Resolution items
The resolution stipulates support for the American initiative,
which includes several key provisions, most notably:
A comprehensive ceasefire, restructuring of the security situation within the sector,
and the formation of a transitional local administration under international supervision.
And to ensure the unhindered flow of humanitarian aid.
The decision also includes strict security arrangements to prevent renewed clashes.
This is in addition to establishing an international monitoring mechanism
to follow up on implementation on the ground.
Pass the project
According to diplomatic sources, the passage of the resolution came
after lengthy negotiations between Washington and members of the council.
It included amendments to clauses relating to the security presence
inside Gaza and the role of regional parties in the next phase.
The United States welcomed the adoption of the resolution,
considering it a “necessary step to create a stable environment”
in preparation for a broader settlement of the conflict.
The decision provoked mixed reactions; some member states voted
in favor of the draft as an opportunity to halt the escalation.
Other countries, however, expressed reservations due to
what they described as “ambiguity” in the mechanisms for implementing
the plan and its impact on the future of the Palestinian cause.
Trump’s plan
The “Trump Plan” refers to the proposal put forward by the US President’s administration.
Which included a vision for restructuring the political
and security situation in the Palestinian territories.
With a focus on rebuilding institutions
and establishing expanded security arrangements.
Despite the widespread controversy surrounding it previously,
the Security Council’s adoption today reintroduces it as
a possible path for managing the next phase in Palestine.
Especially in Gaza, which is experiencing one of the most complex humanitarian
and political crises in its modern history.
