Tehran, Iran – Social media activists circulated videos of protests against the Iran regime at the funeral of a young man

who died mysteriously in the city of Aliqadarz in western Iran.

The area witnessed angry demonstrations on Monday during the funeral of young Omid Sarlak.

He was found dead just days after posting a video showing himself burning

a picture of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Those attending the funeral chanted harsh slogans

against Khamenei and the Iranian authorities.

In a rare scene reflecting the growing public anger towards the regime,

According to video clips that have spread on social media

and have been confirmed by Iranian activists in exile.

Burning the image of the guide

Local reports said that Sarlak, who is about 20 years old,

Last week, he posted a video online documenting his symbolic protest

by burning a picture of the Supreme Leader.

This was before his death was later announced under circumstances described as “mysterious”.

Iranian authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the cause of his death.

Opposition media reported that the young man’s family was subjected to pressure from the security services.

This was to prevent her from speaking to the media or accusing the authorities of being responsible for his murder.

A state of internal tension

Human rights sources confirmed that the authorities sought to restrict attendance

at the funeral to prevent it from turning into a demonstration.

This incident comes at a time when Iran is experiencing internal tensions.

Amid continued criticism of the regime’s policies following the crackdown that followed the 2022 protests.

Observers believe that Sarlak’s death could spark a new wave of public anger.

Especially in the western provinces with a Kurdish and Lur majority,

Accusations of using violence against opponents are frequent.
